Methodist Hospital in Henderson, Kentucky is a 216-bed Acute Care hospital that provides a broad-based healthcare delivery system. In partnership with its medical staff, the focus is on compassionate, high-quality, and cost-effective services. Prior to the MediLinks implementation, Methodist Hospital used AS400 systems with an HL7 facility backbone. There was no clinical data management system and poor access to patient diagnostic information. Therapists used S.O.A.P charting, dependant charge entry, and there was no method to measure productivity. This process was not efficient and it was time to make a change.
Methodist's Respiratory Department was the first division within the hospital to become computerized. Information Technology resources were strained for a full installation; therefore MediServe recommended MediLinks® ASP (Application Service Provider) which offered an immediate deployment option with a reasonable "up front" investment and a monthly subsequent cost. MediServe manages the application, upgrades, and other system maintenance.
Methodist prepared for the MediLinks implementation by selecting "Super Users" for training. The training program included system navigation, problem solving, and daily system use. Multiple training sessions were available to ensure that all team members learned how to use the system. And test banks were set up allowing the staff to practice using MediLinks before going live.
Methodist went live with MediLinks for Respiratory Care in September 2004 and the implementation was completed in less than 15 weeks! MediLinks has increased the availability of patient information. Now therapists are able to spend more time with patients due to decreased paperwork and a continuity of documentation. Methodist also increased charge capture and after one year has experienced an impressive improvement in therapist productivity.
Methodist Hospital experienced a complete Return on Investment after only six months. And after completing a one year ROI study, Methodist experienced the following results:
