St. Rita's Medical Center was able to go-live with MediLinks® in 12 weeks by supporting a true partnership between the hospital IT Team and the MediServe Implementation Project Team. The solution was the first in the hospital to be deployed on their new wireless network, using Citrix thin-client computing and Acer XP Tablets to support the application.
Rapid Implementation Factors
- There was a business need and deadline established to get off their existing system in a concrete time frame (sunset of existing system).
- The client had a dedicated Project Manager on site - all activity was scheduled and accomplished on time.
- Client had focused on how they wanted the system built prior to kick-off; they had mapped out the process along with a communications framework.
- There was documentation available from other systems in the hospital.
- The client department Director and Assistant Director dedicated 50-70% of their time to the project.
- The MediServe Implementation Manager made 6 visits to the site, focusing on training, building and testing. This saved time due to solid communication.
- The client required two initial interfaces - ADT and Billing.
- MediServe provided "black box" hardware with the MediLinks application, MS SQL Server 2000 and the database already loaded.
- Hardware evaluation and selection were made very early in project - evaluation of Tablet PCs was made before MediServe showed up.
- Client IT team resources were made available throughout the project to manage the hardware, network, interfaces, software, and user workstations and tablets.
- The network was already in place - access points and IP addresses already installed.
- The client used a combination of standard MediServe Reports, modified standard reports, and several custom reports.
- A Train the Trainer concept was used to demonstrate the product and workflow to the practitioners and end users. This setup the internal support structure for the users and enabled quicker turnaround for process and database questions.
