Chandler, AZ – April 24, 2012– This week, thousands of those working in the occupational field, from therapists, researchers, to educators and students, will gather in Indianapolis for the 92nd Annual Conference & Expo. Among those invited to speak at the conference, which will focus on science, innovation and evidence, is MediServe clinical consultant Jennifer Hughes, MOT,OTR. She will host a presentation, “Emerging Area of Occupational Therapy Practice: OT Interventions Across the Treatment Continuum for Women With Breast Cancer’’ on Sunday, April 29.
The presentation details her past year’s experience working with the American Cancer Society and American Occupational Therapy Association to advocate for occupational therapy’s role in breast cancer rehabilitation. Those attending will learn OT’s unique role in prevention, rehabilitation, survivorship and advocacy and public education within the emerging area of breast cancer rehabilitation. Hughes will also include and identify evidence-based assessments and treatment modalities used with the breast cancer population across the continuum of care.
In addition to her years of working in the field, Hughes will include her current experience working as a clinical consultant for MediServe, helping implement software solutions specific to IRFs and Outpatient therapy rehabilitation facilities. Hughes has brought a further prescriptive to her endeavors, focusing on the importance of data collection and outcomes for optimal care of patients with cancer. Throughout this session, Hughes will emphasize the importance of evidence, outcome analysis, reimbursement and documentation in this area of practice.
